G'day ...
RH6.2 loves my Dell Inspiron 7500. Suspend and resume work
beautifully, except that my network must be restarted after a
suspend. Dell even provides APM configs for RH. Only trouble is that
the monitor-off feature refuses to work.
With X running as a normal user, I can't get the monitor to turn off
with either `xset dpms force off` or using the Gnome screensaver
control for this purpose. However, if I start X as root, that xset
command will blank -- but not turn off -- the monitor. (Yes, I tried
running the command in a root window; it still only works if X is
being run as root).
Bottom line is that the monitor never blanks under normal
circumstances. There's no BIOS option to do this for me. My kernel
has full APM support (custom). Anyone seen this, and how did you fix
it?
