Well, maybe I'm just paranoid, but I have telnet disabled on my linux
box at home. It's a private LAN with just myself and my dad and a
total of three machines (four if I hook in my laptop!) I am connected
to the internet via an ISDN router on a dial-on-demand basis
(non-dedicated connection.)

Even in THAT environment, I don't have telnet enabled. So, why NOT
just use SSH? If you don't need that much security, then just use the
default key length. :-)

Besides, if you get into the habit of telnetting in as root, you may
try it someplace LESS secure and that could be a problem. Developing
bad habits in a high-security environment is a bad idea.

What you CAN do is set SSH up to not require passwords so that you
just type "ssh machine2" or something like that and you're in! :-)
