Was it installed via rpm or from a tarball?

If via rpm, perhaps you have samba-client and/or samba-common. Try working
with those and see if it works.

If from a tarbal, the best way is to configure and make it, then try 'make
uninstall' to get 'er gone. Not everything supports it, but many do.
