Hi,

A friend of mine would like to install RH 6.1 on his computer, but the
intall program gives a error on the harddisk and stops installing.

He has a copied version of a Redhat 6.1 CD. It was copied with CDR-Win and
the subcode copying was set to automatic.

I don't know much about his computer, but this is what I have:
* I think a 300MHZ CPU.
* 64MB ram
* CD-rom
* I think a 8GB harddrive (IDE). I don't know the type / brand.
* SCSI-card. probably an Adaptec.
* Intel Lan-card.
* Asus Geforce Videocard
* Soundblaster live! 1024

Here's what he tried so far:
He tried a Server install (custom), but that did't work.
He tried a standard Server install and that didn't work.
The last time he installed Windows '98 on his computer and tried to install
Linux next to it and even that didn't work.

He says it keeps giving him errors on the harddrive.
He can install Windows on the harddrive without problems so I don't think it
is broken.

What I remember about problems on the harddrives is that Western Digital's
could give problems and the Bios must be set to LBA.
Could somebody tell me if I'm right?

I have some more items that could (and probably will) give problems.

* Is there a driver for his Asus Geforce videocard or could he use a
"standard" videodriver?
I don't think he's willing to give up his Geforce (but you never know).

* I remember that there was a way to get a Soundblaster Live! 1024 up and
running. Does someone know how to do this?

I don't know that much about Linux and the problems i descibed.
I really hope there is someone who can help us or give us a push in the
right direction.

Thanks in advance,

Remon
