 Wow, this sounds weird! Your filesystem is really messed up somehow. Have you 
been accessing (writing) your filesystem from Windos (explore2fs)?
 The bright green usually indicates executables, so your directories have 
somehow changed to executables. Try running [e2]fsck from your maintainance 
installation. Maybe it will repair the directories. You might want to make a 
backup of the entire device with dd before applying any changes.

 You could of course try using a disk editor, or a tool like debugfs, but then 
you really have to know what you are doing...

 Directories are never changed into normal files under normal operation. 
Something seriously went wrong on your system. Even root should not be able to 
change directories into files (directly).
