My guess... you aren't using Xterms and VI, or you have your .Xdefaults
file already set up to "fix" the problem.

For sure the problem hit me, which is why I complained.  From 6.1 to 6.2
the backspace problem arrived.  Add the XTerm backspace value and the
problem goes away.  Obviously the default changed.
