Thanks for all the information I have received so far folks, especially to Lee for the two links... I stepped away from the machine, did some reading and am back at it.. I'm running RH6.2 , I checked my kernel and noticed that it comes with everything on as it should be for scsi support. I also edited /etc/conf.modules to add the following lines: options ide-cd ignore=hdd # <- My drive is on hdd alias scd0 sr_mod pre-install sg modprobe ide-scsi pre-install sr_mod modprobe ide-scsi pre-install ide-scsi modprobe ide-cd I also edited /etc/lilo.conf and added the following line immediately after the default=linux line in the global section.. append="hdd=ide-scsi" I then did a /sbin/lilo -v and noticed the following error message: /boot/boot.0306 exists - no backup copy mode What does this mean? Is this normal? I then rebooted and tried to start xcdroast, and got the ususal no generic scsi support error message...
