I've been using Debian only for a couple of months now, mainly to learn
another Linux distro... but it seems to me that perhaps you also need to
change the /etc/exim.conf file in order to specify that new domain in
there.  I also had some problems at the very beginnning precisely due to
that, and a lot of email from this list got bounced.  There is a good
chance you will have to add the new domain to the local_domains parameter.
