Please forget this message, it was a real long
day. Figured it all out (or at least what is needed)
with a walk around the block and good fresh cup of coffee.

Subject: kernel going crazy .. need help !!
Hi,
I'm missing something in the docs or at least my eyes are.
I just finished reading the Kernel-HOWTO, and what I can
find on the RedHat site. I'm going nuts ...
If any of this is in a HOWTO, please, point me to it and
I will go away.
I loaded the 2.2.16 RPMs, added a patch to for a new
ide controller. That all went well.
Did a new xconfig
changed the EXTRAVERSION variable in the Makefile to
5, so the final version would be 2.2.16-5.
did a make depend, make bzImage, make modules,
make modules_install
Now here is where I'm going crazy.
I can't do a new mkinitrd since I don't have the new compressed
kernel in /boot.
Should I copy/rename the file /usr/src/....arch/i386/boot/bzImage
to /boot/vmlinuz-2.2.16-5 ?
Do I copy that file /usr/src/linux/vmlinux to /boot as
vmlinux.2.2.16-5 ?
The links kernel.h, System.map, module-info point to actual
files named with the version suffix, is there a script that gets them
there ?
If not where do I find them ?
Thanks,
-pete
