Ok.  This still sounds strange.  I know when I did a slackware install,
you created a boot floppy, and it uncompressed the kernel from the floppy
into memory, and then ran it.  The memory used was freed up again when the
kernel started running.  I don't understand how loadlin would do any
better, but one way you could do  it is to boot a DOS floppy.  Then have a
second floppy with loadlin and the kernel on it...  I guess I am going to
have to look at the current Slackware docs.

It is actualy written for installing on laptops with 4M, but it also
applies to desktops.  (Desktops are easyer...)
