As Lee Howard indicated, USR model 5610 works great under Linux with the
modifications he suggested.
You might want to check the following link to see whether your USR modem
is a Winmodem or not?

If it is, then I'd recommend an exchange for USR 5610 (it's about $80.00
(onvia.com)).
