/etc/hosts has the 127.0.0.1 localhost, the 216.64.108.209 mailsrv, and a
few other machines that are in house. /etc/resolv.conf has domain
image-src.com and two namesever entries (216.64.31.76, 216.7.161.32).
Bind-utils is version 8.2.2_P5-9 (came with the 6.2 distro) and ipchains
isn't installed on this computer. The computer in question is sitting on a
switch next to our dns servers and current mail server which is directly
connected to the internet.

What's in /etc/hosts, /etc/resolv.conf and what version of bind-utils is
installed? Do you have anything in place that would block dns lookups like
some ipchains rules or something else?
