Thanks in advance ....

I have an IDE CDROM in a Pentium II running RHLinux. It has worked fine
until recently, and its current malfunction might indicate what is
wrong: the CDROM, the IDE interface, etc. That would help me replace or
fix whatever is the problem.

I can mount the device and read, for example, the RHL installation CD.
But the xplaycd program, which has been ok in the past, finds "no disk"
*almost* every time I try it. The /var/log/messages gives the diagnostic
"tray open or drive not ready". My current probability of xplaycd
finding
a disk and working is virtually zero, although a week ago it worked a
couple of times.

What I'm thinking about is the difference between the way that Linux
accesses the CDROM for mounting versus that for the xplaycd program.

Is there any clue there?

Again, thanks ...
