I just bought a Valinux startx sp2 machine and noticed the following line
when booting up:

Start service autofs apmd[286] Charge : *** (-1% unknown)

What does that mean? I do not understand why I need apmd with a desktop.
The man page refers to batteries and suspend mode, more appropirate for a
laptop. And autofs refers to an /etc/auto.master file that refers to the
following mont point: /misc /etc/auto.misc --timeout 60 /misc
/etc/auto.misc --timeout 60 which refers to:

kernel -ro,soft,intr ftp.kernel.org:/pub/linux
cd -fstype=iso9660,ro,nosuid,nodev :/dev/cdrom

I do not get this at all. What does the startup message refer to and why
do I need apmd and autofs to start with? The man page itself for automount
says, "The documentation leaves a lot to be desired."

Any perspective and help appreciated.
