CD Error at startup

I'm getting an error at startup that I'm guesing is the problem with me
playing audio CDs. I ran dmesg and found this:

ATAPI device hdb
    ERROR: Illegal request --(SenseKey=0x05)
    Parameter list length error -(asa=0x1a)(asa=0x00)
    The failed "mode sense" packet command was:

I have no idea what this means. Can anybody help me?
