You can't run both together. php4 is almost totally backward compatible.

The only things I've seen that don't work properly under php4 are an
old version of IMP, and phpMyAdmin.
I'm not a big fan of IMP, but if you are, then upgrade. phpMyAdmin
just feels clumsy compared with using the native mysql client.
What about php4 isn't "compatible" enough for you?
