A while ago I switched to fetchmail from uucp to get mail from my ISP. With uucp I never had problems with new mail coming in and being added to my inbox while I was reading mail that was already there. All pine told me was "xxx new messages [Most recent from ....]." With fetchmail running periodically in the backgroud however, I occasionally the normal "new messages" announcement, but more often I get one of the following messages. I always end up with #4 and have to exit/restart pine to get back to reading my mail. 1. Unexpected changes to mailbox (try restarting) 2. New mailbox modification time but apparently no changes 3. [Message size does not match expected size, continuing...] 4. [MAIL FOLDER "INBOX" CLOSED DUE TO ACCESS ERROR] I suspect some sort of lockfile problem--somebody is not honoring a lock or using a different lock than pine--but I cannot figure out who, when or where.
