I would recommend at least the following packages on the 6.2 cdrom.

egcs-1.1.2-30
egcs-c++-1.1.2-30
libstdc++-2.9.0-30
cpp-1.1.2-30
binutils-2.9.5.0.22-6
glibc-devel-2.1.3-15
XFree86-devel-3.3.6-20
make-3.78.1-4
automake-1.4-6
autoconf-2.13-5
kernel-headers-2.2.14-5.0
kernel-source-2.2.14-5.0
indent-2.2.5-2
ctags-3.4-1

then, of course :^) :
vim-common-5.6-11
vim-X11-5.6-11
vim-enhanced-5.6-11

If you've got the disk space, installing *-devel-*.rpm wouldn't be a bad idea.

Run gnorpm and use it to browse the CD and just look around in the
development section and install everything you think you might ever use
(and then some).
