Jason:
Quite the contrary Jason. This is the basis for almost every educational
system out there. If every student out there "could" just read and learn
everything they needed to know, why would we need teachers?
There are possibly several reasons why this user didn't read the
message. Maybe he sigs being automatically stripped off. Maybe he sent
it to the wrong list by mistake (redhat-list and redhat-list-request are
close), maybe he was lazy. Who knows? How difficult is it to say
something like:
Hello <user>:
at the bottom of each mail message posted on this list is the method to
unsubscribe. Try sending email to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
with unsubscribe in the topic. A lot of mailing lists do something
similar to this, and most have an FAQ that mentions the correct
procedure. It might be helpful if you get involved with mailing lists in
the future to get a hold of the FAQ for that list and keep it handy for
reference.

It would be very easy to make the exact same argument that you made about
people not learning anything when we blindly tell them the answer. How
about when we call them names? Personally, if someone responded to me
like that, I would probably ignore them altogether and delete the message.
This list is for people who are generally interested in learning and
helping one another. You're not required to contribute anything and can
keep as much information as you like. Sure, this list gets its fair share
of test messages, and the like. Just ignore them. How hard is to hit the
delete key on a message?
