I have Samba installed and running in RH 6.2. NICs work. I can ping all
directions across the LAN. I can FTP into the LINUX Box. I have appended
this post with the output of testparm. Everything seems to be fine. I have
gone into Linuxconf...User Accounts ...User Account .... and created users
based upon the login name and password of the windows boxes..and vice versa.
I can see the Linux box in my Windows Network Neighborhood window but when
I try to access from a Win98 box it asks me for a password...not a user
name and password. When I type the password I logged on to Win98 with and
created the Linux user with, it says the password is in correct.
When I try to access it from the NT server it asks for a user name and
password. I try using the user name and password I am logged into the NT
box and created the Linux user name for but it says unknown user and
password. When I try to log into Linux box using the same name and password
I ftp in with I get a not authorized to log in from this station.
What am I doing wrong.
I name my LAN members by their CPUs. Linux won't let me create a user
called 550. Why not?
My NT Server has SYGATE set up to handle a cable modem NAT server with a
fixed IP. I have pointed Linux box to the NT Server IP address as a gate
way just like I do with the Windows box. I can ping across the Internet but
Netscape doesn't work I assume because it is not making the IP to name
translation...So what do I have to do ...how do I set this up.
Thanks for any help !

THE RESULT OF A testparm......
When I try to access the Linux box from my NT Server it askes for a user
name and password. I have tried using the Load smb config files from
/etc/smb.conf
