Subject: really messed up , part 2

hello again,
well , I got my box running again , kinda.
the only thing I can get for a resolution is anything for 8bit , nothing
higher.
but my main problem ,is that I just get a screen with the default gnome gray
background , no icons (until I start file manager(then the icons appear))
no taskbar , nothing.
I can get things to run by using the 3rd button on my mouse to get a menu ,
but having my taskbar back would be nicer.
I took everything in my root directory and backed it up in a different
directory the removed everything in my dir and rebooted.
still gnome would not start , I did reinstall all the gnome stuff when doing
all this.
anyone have any solutions on how to get this back running , please?
