No printer

I have been having troubles getting the printer going. I have a printer
connected to a parallel port. 

These are the messages I have in /var/log/messages

Apr  6 06:54:25 anchovy insmod: /lib/modules/2.2.14/misc/lp.o:
init_module: Device or resource busy
Apr  6 06:54:25 anchovy kernel: lp: no devices found

Any suggestions are appreciated.
