I am having problems installing RH 6.2. I was running 6.1 but am doing a new install of 6.2. Computer = one Seagate ULTRA 33 EIDE hard drive 9 GB on a ABIT BX6_2 board and 300A>450 Celeron with 128 megs of Micron P-100... PCI Matrox Millennium Video...SBPNP32 sound card...external USR modem ...CPRO 120c NIC Tulip clone chipset....TEAC 32 speed CDR I boot off the newly burned CD and start a New install . I choose to delete the existing Linux Native partition , create a new one ..same place and size and use the existing swap. Custom install .... install everything. This is a 3 GIG partition on a multi boot system where System Commander 2000 handles the dual boot. The drive looks like this hda1 ...Linux Native ...3GB hd2......Linux swap ....160 megs hd3 .....Dos Primary....250 megs hd4 .....Dos extended....the rest logical one = FAT32 Win98...1GB logical two = NTFS Win2000...4GB logical three = FAT32 ....the rest I go through the install...it formats the partition starts installing packets and when it gets to around 50 packets it just reboots. No error message, no warning nothing...just reboots. After a couple of times of going through this I went into Partition Magic 5 and checked the partitions. It gave me this error on Linux Native hda1 ..... Error 1211 Block %lu has incorrect block count. However PowerQuest provides no explanation of this error code. They just say these warnings are so rare and only pertain to Linux they don't provide documentation on the CD or the web site. The swap file is fine ...no errors. So I delete the partition and let PM create a new Linux native ..then I check everything for errors and then start a new install. This time I tell Linux not to format the native but it does format the swap. Starts installing and almost immediately hangs. When PM5 creates the Linux Native it hangs...when Linux creates the native it just reboots when it is installing files. I have gone through this a couple of times. I have tried reducing the Linux Native down to 2GB and leaving the rest free space. I have used Linux to create different partitions and also let Partition Magic do it....same problem either way. It can't be the computer because 6.1 ran fine on this exact setup although when I installed 6.1 it wouldn't accept a 3 GB partition ...I had to install on 2.5 GB and resize it later with PM5. Linux install just wouldn't accept it at three GB. It must be something to do with the hard drive or partition that Linux doesn't like.....but what ? Here is the Linux partition information as reported by Partition Magic Partition Type: 83(Hex) Linux Ext2 First physical sector: 63 (Cyl 0, Hd 1, Sect1) Last physical sector: 6,152,894 (Cyl 382, Hd 254, Sect 63) Total physical sectors: 6,152,832 (3,004.3.MB) Physical geometry 1,108 Cyls, 255Hds, 63 Sects When I check for errors I see this Seveity Fixed Number Description Warning 1211 Block %lu has incorrect block count Partition Type: 82(Hex) Linux Swap First physical sector: 6,152,895 (Cyl 383, Hd 0, Sect1) Last physical sector: 6,474,194 (Cyl 402, Hd 254, Sect63) Total physical sectors: 321,300 (156.9 MB) Physical Geometry: 1108 Cyls, 255 Hds, 63 Sects Using PM5 I start out with good partitions but after Linux starts installing something gets changed. Anybody know what the problem is ? Thanks morse -- To unsubscribe: mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe" as the Subject.
