I used to have a working home network of 2+ computers. Currently I am using a Redhat Masqueraded/ Dialup Gateway Box and a Win-95 workstation connected by a LinkSys 10baseT Hub. I upgraded it from RH-5.2 [on a 486dx120] to RH-6.1 [on a newer pentium box but with the 'same nic'/settings etc ] I have had serious problems getting the two boxes to communicate. When I ping from Box-1 to the IP# of box-2 the PING 'hangs' and does nothing. When I ping from Box-2 to the Box-1 IP# it 'times out'. I finally gave up on the RH-6.1 install and reinstalled the hard drives from the RH-5.2 installation just to see what would happen... and I got the same results when pinging either way. The following is my system | |==Box-1 RH-5.2 [ Masqueraded-IPFWADM/Gateway-via 56k modem] | >-----|---eth0 IP= 192.168.127.65 Mask= 255.255.255.0 | | >--|==LynkSys HUB, 10BT, 5 ports | | | |--Box-2, | eth0 IP = 192.168.127.68 Mask= 255.255.255.0 | THE GATEWAY for box-2 is 192.168.127.65 My /etc/hosts contains.... 127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain 192.168.127.65 gw.domain.name gw 192.168.127.68 luk.domain.name luk 'netstat -nr shows.... 192.168.127.65 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 1500 0 0 eth0 127.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 3584 0 0 lo Can someone give me an idea what could be wrong here? possibly... 1. bad 'configuration' 2. bad 'network interface card' 3. ???
