Usually when you install Linux or BSD the size of the / partition is usually
100mb butt So if you want to login as root having X
startup automatically will just fill up your / partition really quickly. With
files such as 

Desktop
.netscape etc etc

I suggest you start Linux on text mode and when you log in type "startx".
