Hi,

I had similar problems with an awe32.  Brian thacker on this list
suggested this.  It worked for me.  Good luck,

When you configure the kernel, make sure to include the FM-Synth
(YM3812/OPL-3) support module and in the additional low level sound
drivers, be
sure to include AWE32 synth support and see if that helps.
