        I ran a number of small to medium-sized mailing lists (400 to 2000 users per 
list) for a couple of years using Majordomo on a 486/66
with 32 megs of ram and Redhat 5.1. It worked like a champ. I finally upgraded that 
machine not because it was too slow to crunch on all the
mail, but because I was starting to run low on hard drive space, I was adding a bunch 
more lists and the drive was starting to make strange
noises. :-)
        I figured it was a good time to make a clean break up to a faster machine and 
a newer release.  
        Processing mail isn't as intense of a job as serving up web hits or running a 
database server, so those little boxes like 486's and Sparc
IPX's seem to do just fine at it.
