Morning Everyone:
I was reading Allen's posting on the list about gcc-2.95-2. I want to try
and upgrade to this, and so I went to the rawhide section and downloaded
the following RPMs:
binutils-2.9.5.0.22-1.i386.rpm
cpp-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-c++-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-chill-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-g77-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-java-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-libgcj-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
gcc-objc-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
libstdc++-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
libstdc++-compat-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
libstdc++-devel-2.95.2-3.i386.rpm
Now, I have a stock Red Hat 6.1 system, with all of the patches
applied. I put all of these files in a folder, and attempted to do this:
rpm -Uvh --test *.rpm
The oputput of this command is:
error: failed dependencies:
libbfd-2.9.1.0.24.so is needed by kernel-utils-2.2.12-20
So I did some checking, and it turns out that libbfd-2.9.1.0.24.so is
provided in binutils-2.9.1.0.23-6, the version currently on my
machine. Has anyone else encountered this, and what did you do for a
workaround? I'd like to keep my RPM database correct, and I hate to have
to force an Upgrade or install if it isn't necessary. Further, I get a
slew of errors if I try to install the new binutils while leaving the old
one installed as well.
Any ideas?
- Mike
P.S. - Any rumors floating around on when Red Hat 6.2 might appear on the
scene?
