Hi list,
If I run X windows (either GNOME or KDE) it works well at 800 x 600 res.
However, 1024 x 768 is painful. It redraws the screen very slowly. For
instance, if you scroll down a web page or a page of text or even down
the file manager, you can see the page being redrwan several times. When
you've scrolled to where you want to be, it carries on scrolling for a
little longer, presumably catching up with itself. Windows such as
Netscape, Emacs and xterm wobble if they are dragged across the screen.
Everything displays properly and this happens in both GNOME and KDE. I
have not tried other window managers.
I'm running RH6.1 on a Pc with;
AMD K6 300
64mb SDRAM
PC Chips M/board
SiS6326 8mb AGP on board graphics
ADI ProVista Monitor E44 (15")
Kernel is 2.2.12-20
Swap 127mb
My XF86config file contains;
Section "Device"
Indentifier "Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS]|86C326"
VendorName "Unknown"
BoardName "Unknown"
VideoRam 8192
Option "no_accel" (was remmed out but made no difference)
Option "no_bitblt" (put in to allow xterm and emacs to appear
properly)
Option "sw_cursor" (put in because it was on the list - made no
difference)
Section "Screen"
Driver "svga"

Monitor "ADI ProVista E44"
Subsection "Display"

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me bonkers.
BTW I'm starting a LUG in Peterborough UK. www.peterboro.lug.org.uk
The site needs some work but please post any advice or links you feel
might be of use.
Many Thanks,
Steve
