Mail setup question

I want to retieve a 1/2 dozen pop3 accounts to a internal mail server for
distribution there and use the internal server for SMTP to my ISP's SMTP server.
I assume sendmail is what I want for the SMTP side but what tool can I use for
the retrieval of the POP3 mail??

Is there a doc on how to set this up easily? I have heard sendmail can be a
bear and I don't want to be bouncing mail all over the place.
