Connecting a dumb serial terminal to "/dev/ttyS1"

Hello,

I'm trying to connect a dumb serial terminal to serial port (ttyS1). I am 
using a RS-232 cable. This does not seem to work. If I connect a modem to 
the port (using same cable) it works fine. When connecting the terminal 
(with same cable) to a SCO-Unix system it works fine also (using computone 
board).

Does anybody have an idea what I am doing wrong.
