rdist uses rsh and friends.  If you are using rdist as root, as
is most likely, you will need to take care of the file /etc/securetty on each
target host (I move the file to /etc/securetty.orig so it's not seen).  
I believe you will also have to either have either a .rhosts
file owned by root in root's home directory on each target or an /etc/hosts.equiv
file on each target. The .rhosts file should contain the name of the source machine
as well as any other hosts root may rlogin from.

I use the .rhosts scheme and everything works fine.
