Wooo Hooo! Finally, I can be of some use ;-) <hopefully> ;-)
I had a pretty hard time figuring out why on the network with
mixed Win95/Win98 clients Samba behaves strange. Some shares
are working and some not...

The problem was that Win95 by default sends passwords in clear
text, but Win98 sends them encrypted. So, what I did was:
- Configure Samba to expect clear text passwords (I wanted so)
- Created one share that was available to smbguest account
- Copied to that share fixes for Win98 from Samba doc directory
  (.reg files)
- Installed the patches (.reg files) on all Win98 machines.
- Rebooted all Win98 machines
- Yuppie! It worked ;-)

Try it. HTH.
