If you're using 6.0 or 6.1, the easiest way is to just tell it to boot
into graphical mode while you install it.
After installation, you can configure it in Xconfigurator.

If you're using a version prior to 6.0, or if you don't want to rerun
Xconfigurator, just change the line

id:3:initdefault:

in /etc/inittab to

id:5:initdefault:
