Compatibility Questions re: CD RW and USB

Evening.  I'm considering a new machine which is to have a re-writable CD 
and two USBs.  I'd appreciate hearing comments on compatibility of these 
devices.  I'm inclined to believe the CD RW is okay but  I'm unclear as to 
USB support.

I'm running 6.1, kernel 2.2.12.  Thank you.
