I use Applix. It works for me and I'm satisfied with it. I'm not trying to
typeset a book or anything, I just do simple stuff, so there may be some
features that are defective or missing which I do not even realize. For
general editing, though, I use vi. I used LaTeX for a while, but I wasn't
using it frequently enough to become proficient and I wanted my wife and
family to be able to use it, too, so I got Applix.
I've heard Star Office is as good and cheaper. I haven't jumped the hoops yet
to install and try it, though.
