> When the poweruser has a job that can be done with > either toolkit...why not use the one he has? That's another nice stereotype, along with the "cryptic command line interface". I am not a poweruser! I use linux (unless I want to play games) because it is easier to handle, and it's mostly xemacs+TeX and internet user stuff (e-mail, lynx,...), not the service things. And I wouldn't think I am unique. This all is probably possible in DOS/Win*, I just _cannot figure out_ how to make the thing work (and why should I bother? Esp. for my own bucks/pesos). Yep, Office... I run no office, thank you. >> but you won't use the other zillion functions the power drill was >> intended for so why not use a hammer instead? Some hammer. Make two hundred clicks to copy a file, then two hundred more to find and open it to edit ("Hey, it's plain text" - "But it has .*** extension, so I load this... not found, go pay another $200"), the handle breaks every second hour, and the nails you thought already done fall out when that happens... Then, of course, there are powerusers who can make it work perfectly.
