Red Hat 4.2 USERS: After upgrading our Departemental Print Server to lpr-0.31-0 I find users without codes on the Print Server can NO longer print remotely! The Print Server is a 486 DX/33 running RH 4.2 and the remote users (or those known to be effected, there may have been some on other hosts) are on a SUN SPARC/10 running SunOS 4.1.3. This particular host I ugraded directly from lpr-0.18-1 to lpr-0.31-0 without first going through lpr-0.30-0, so do NOT know if it was also effected? The print server has the hosts in question listed in its hosts.lpd file and does NOT have the 'rs' parameter in the printcap entries, all of which had worked correctly with lpr-0.18-1 for quite some time! I understood lpr-0.30-0/lpr-0.31-0 address buffer overflows "problems" as they relate to security, so this new "feature" is a bit of a puzzle. My "work-around" was to either create accounts for the remote users on the print server or downgrade the RH 4.2 installation to lpr-0.18-1 (neither of which is "ideal"). Since we are right at the end of the school term, the downgrading option was the "quickest" so I have gone with that one.
