You can't, at least not without modifying the kernel, and I'm unclear
what ramifications this will have. I doubt quick changing a few #defines
somewhere and recompiling will work.

And, you don't have to. If you need that much swap, just make N swap 
partitions of 128 megs each, and include them each in /etc/fstab. Linux
will then see and use all of them.
