Sometimes you'll find that a library it says is missing is looking for a
particular symbolic link (so the lib isn't missing, just the name it is
looking for). I run into these problems occassionally, and I believe I
did so with some MySQL products. Point being use ln to make the correct
symbolic link (thus file name) and point it to your library. One thing
to remember, make sure the library is the correct version.

Just a note on the above. I got interested in Mark's plight and took a
look at getting abiword running on RH7.3, using the "rpmbuild -rebuild
*.src.rpm" from rawhide.

The dependency list for this task is still quite huge and found that
many
of the support devel rpm's were too old to work and would themselves
require upgrading (download, rpmbuild, install, etc....). A daunting
task
in anybody's book. I wish I had the time to complete this project, but
too many other "important" things demand my time.

So far the quickest and easiest way I've found to get the new version of

abiword to run, is to download the newest Knoppix iso (I have 3.2) and
run
it from the resulting Knoppix CD. Not optimal, but doable.
