I have a Redhat 4.2 system that has been running fine for about a year now.

Then two days ago, it started to refuse root logins from anywhere, remote
or console.

I get the message "root login refused on this terminal". As this is
usually a securetty file problem, that is the first place I looked. The
securetty file was not changed from when it worked, and I also tried to
remove it with no success.

I can use su to gain root access.

What's up?

Thanks
Troy
