I am not sure if this problem should be better reported to the rpm
list, but this seems to be more a general problem so I'm posting it here.

My problem is this: I'm not able to unpack some new rpms because of
what seems to be a format problem, for instance, I am not able to unpack the
last glibc update available. I have not been able to make rpm make a
diagnose of the situation. If I query one of the problem packages with rpm
-qp package I get the message 'cannot query package package', but if I make
'file package' I get the right info, and file seems to be able to query the
package properly. I tried also converting the packages with 'rpm2cpio', but
it terminates with an error about a damaged header. This could be the files
were damaged while downloading them, but I don't think so, because some
files work and some don't, for instance, yesterday I downloaded kde beta 4
and all the packages were ok, except one.

I was using the latest rpm available at the updates directory, with
glibc 2.0.7-4, so tried downgrading my system back to the original rpm and
glibc of the RH 5.0 cd, but the problem persisted.

Has someone had a problem like this? Any ideas of what could be
wrong with my setup?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english, hope my message is not
to confusing.
