        Thanks for the suggestion.  Unfortunately, strange as it seems, my LaserJet
IIISi does not have a printer port connector; it looks to me like the "port"
module was removable, and the installer took it out to replace it with the
Ethernet module.  However, I have not lost all hope; the guy was a packrat,
and there is a (minor) chance that he saved the original port module.

I have the Laserjet IIISi on a parellel port and have used it
without any problems with lpr lprng and CUPS I would guess your
problem has to be in group a, however an easy way to check would
be to setup the IIISi to the parellel port and see how it prints
then you would know if the driver is corrupted.
