Hi,

I have researched this problem. I am using stock RH 9.

If I try to run xmms, it gives me a "segmentation fault."

I know that on Red Hat 8 this problem was fairly known and
the xmms bug discussion forum said the solution was to install
the arts package. But the arts package is already installed,
and upon seeing that I even threw in the rest of KDE for fun off
the RH 9 CDs. Same problem.

I uninstalled the xmms RPM and downloaded the source tarball from
xmms.org and compiled and installed that, but same problem.
The xmms bug forum recognized this problem as unique to Red Hat,
but their solution (For RH 8) doesn't seem to work for my RH 9.

Note I did NOT do a full RH install. xmms _did_ work on this same machine
awhile when I did a full install, but I had to reinstall because
of some fun complications and the next time I did a partial install
because I knew I would use KDE and a few other things.

Here is gdb output:
Starting program: /usr/local/bin/xmms
[New Thread 1077049312 (LWP 3462)]
[New Thread 1088322880 (LWP 3463)]

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 1077049312 (LWP 3462)]
0x4207a293 in strlen () from /lib/tls/libc.so.6

Does anyone know how to solve this mysterious problem without
nuking my system again...

Thank you!
