I'm running Linux on a notebook (486DX/33, 190 mb hd, 8 mb ram) and using
a PCMCIA modem. Outside of X, I can dial my ISP, send/receive mail, ping,
telnet, etc. When I start X, I can't dial out (chat reports atd, alarm,
Failed). If I connect and then start X, ifconfig shows the connection is
still up, but I can't use it (ping hangs, DNS lookup failures, etc.).
My trackball is linked to /dev/ttyS1 and is COM2 under DOS. My modem is
linked to /dev/cua2 and is COM3 under DOS.
Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this apparent conflict?
Searches of FAQs and HOWTOs haven't helped. Any suggestions welcome. TIA.
Cheers,
Ed
