SCSI tape drive problem

Hi all,     I am trying to install a scsi internal tape drive ( vxa2) by exabyte.  The drive is getting detected when I give "dmesg". But when I try to initialise the drive using mt -f /dev/st0 rewind  or any other command I get an error " No drive present" I am using redhat 7.2 and the scsi card is adaptec 39160. Have anyone used a scsi vxa drive before in 7.2 ???       senthil
