AbiWord has spell checking and document embedding. There are other Office-compatible solutions as well, such as Hancom Office. OO.o is only one of the choices, although it's the most popular right now. In fact, in OO.o version 1.1 there are a lot of features that should make PowerPoint users drool, such as exporting presentations to Flash.
