Sorry, I always seem to forget this sort of info. RH 8.

Oh right. I didn't realize there was a syslog.conf man page.

Ok, so I've read through the syslog.conf man page and I have a question that is still
unsanswered.

Using your example:

> kernel.* @myhost.com

What sort of entry do I need on the remote computer in syslog.conf?

Here is why I'm confused. Normally when you specify where certain messages are to be
logged you specify the type of message to log, and where it should go on the local
machine. But when you send to another machine I'm don't see how the remote machine
knows where to put the messages?

Here is my one thought for a solution, maybe it is correct.

On the local machine you would have this:

kernel.* @myhost.com

Then on the remote machine myhost.com you would have this:

kernel.* /var/log/kernel

Is this correct? Does the type of entry carry over to the remote machine? Do I somehow
have to specify that some kernal messages are going to be coming from a remote machine
and some will be coming from the local machine?

Am I being clear as to what I'm confused about?

Chris.
