Oh, (What you thought I was done???), one more thing about community. I
stated in my previous missive that I wouldn't need this community if I
knew it all, but that isn't true really is it? I need to give back,
because that is what open source is about, giving back to the community.
The other part is the commraderie that may develop. A lot of us have had
our shops sliced so thin to where we may be the only ones left to
support everything. In my case, I am supporting Windows, yeesh, Solaris,
HP/UX, AIX, Unixware (Bad SCO, bad), and many versions of Red Hat. I
have also had to don the database administer hat to handle postgres,
Network admin hat to handle the routers and T1s, etc, and even phone
administrator. Having others to reach out to of like minds helps me to
know that I am not alone. I know I can persevere because I have others
supporting me. I have been on this job since August, since then I have
learned AIX, HP/UX, Solaris, postgresql, piranha, Lifekeeper, and still
have to set up a Beawolf cluster. Most of this, I had to learn on my
own. So yeah, sometimes, I may have posted a lob here because maybe my
brain is too fried to think straight or I just am flat out and don't
have the time to do the proper research and am looking for the quick
answer. I do try to give back though. Anyway, I guess that makes this my
four centavos worth.
Slainte, Ed.
