I've seen the subscript has type 'char' warning a few times while
compiling 2.0.34. As far as I know, it isn't hurting anything.

How long did you wait before you interrupted the compile? DId you
perhaps switch screens or xterms and see what was happening with
'top'?  On my P100, init/main.c compiles almost instantaneously, but
there are a few files that take a little bit longer than that to
compile.
